What is BHIM?



BHIM - Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a digital payments solution app based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This app allows you to send and receive money with just one tap to other UPI payment addresses. You have to register your bank account with BHIM, and set a UPI pin for the bank account. Your mobile number is your payment address and you can simply start transacting through this app. If your mobile number is already registered with UPI, you are good to go.

Features of BHIM App

1. You can download and install this app from play store.
2. You can send money to or receive money from customers, friends and family members through mobile number or payment address.
3. Money can also be sent to non-UPI supported banks using IFSC and MMID codes.
4. One can also collect money by sending a request and reverse payments if required.
5. This app allows users to check your bank balance and transactions details on the go.
6. One can create a custom payment address in addition to your phone number.
7. You can create your own QR (Quick Response) code for a fixed amount of money, which the merchant can scan to make the deduction.
8. The app accepts a maximum of Rs. 10000 per transaction and Rs. 20000 within 24 hours.
9. Currently the app supports Hindi and English languages only. More languages coming soon.
10. There are no charges for making transaction through BHIM app. However, your bank might levy a charge as UPI or IMPS transfer fee. Please check with your bank for more details.
11. Currently, this app supports linking of one bank only. So if your number is linked to two accounts, you will have to disable the selected bank account and choose another bank accounts as your default account.
12. The money is not first loaded into the app before transactions as in other mobile wallets. The transactions are conducted directly through the banks that support UPI.
13. All transactiona are secured as it is happing via Unified Payment Interface.
14. This app is backed by government of India and money is getting transferred from bank account to bank account without any intermediator.
15. This app is currently available on Android (Version 8 & above) and iOS mobiles (Version 5 & above).
16. All payments over BHIM is linked to bank account and transaction can be completed within few seconds.
17. There is an extensive FAQ provided about the app. So, it makes BHIM app very helpful to new users.
18. Since BHIM is a UPI app, you can always contact your bank in case anything goes wrong.

Types of transactions can be done using BHIM App

Through BHIM you can make following type of transaction:
1. Request or Send Money via Payment Address
2. Send Money to Aadhaar Number
3. Request or Send Money to Mobile number
4. Send Money through MMID , Mobile No.
5. Send Money through IFSC code, Account No.
6. In addition, you can use the scan and pay option for Merchant payments.

Requirements to start using BHIM App

To start using BHIM all you need is a Smartphone, Internet access, an Indian bank account that supports UPI payments and mobile number linked to the bank account. Link your bank account to UPI through the app.

Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, Central Bank of India, DCB Bank, Dena Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, IndusInd Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, RBL Bank, South Indian Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, and Vijaya Bank.

How to send money using BHIM App?

From the BHIM app Home screen,
1) Click Send Money Option
2) Enter or select the receiver's mobile number or Payment Address (you can select from your contact list or enter it) or Aadhaar number
3) Enter the amount you want to send
4) Your default bank a/c gets selected
5) Enter UPI PIN and send
Alternately, you can also scan a QR code and pay via the 'Scan & Pay' option

How to request money using BHIM App?

From the BHIM app Home screen,
1) Select Request Money
2) Enter or select the receiver's mobile number or Payment Address (you can select from your contact list or enter it) or Adhaar number
3) Enter the amount you want to request
4) Click Send



This transaction will remain pending until the payment is received. You will be notified when the money is transferred to you. You may also request money by sharing your QR code. Go to Home Screen->Profile->Choose account to get QR code.
